The Captain

So I slammed the doors they slammed at me

I remember first hearing this on The Sopranos and then later on a street corner in Lake Charles, Louisiana where the girl singing the song couldn't have done it prouder. I remember her smile when a well-dressed, elderly man tossed a rose her way as he passed by.

The lyrics build and build. Can't tell if it's submission or bitterness or both.

I've always wondered that myself. A little of both, maybe?

I'm not familiar with the singer and keeping up with new ones has been hit and miss ever since Madonna. So, not knowing, I wondered for a while if it was meant as a religious song...

One of my fav songs too. I've written about four shorts to her songs. Love her lyrics and voice. Cool about the elderly gent and rose.

I like that one, David. Great voice and lyrics. Have you listened to a singer called KT Tunstall? Not disimilar to Casey Chambers.

Ron, Hm.. I don't see that but I'm tainted by it being included in the Sopranos soundtrack.

I did not know some stories were based on songs. Very cool, Jodi.

David, KT is a very fine artist. I enjoy Black Horse And The Cherry Tree.

Love her voice and the lyrics make for a great story line!

I have all of her albums, and every song is the equal of this one. She's a great talent.

i never base a story on a song, but the song influences the mood and characters. Kind of like the way you choose out a shirt to wear with a pair of jeans. ;-)

Charles, I know it's kinda slow for you, right?

Redbush, A very twisted storyline for sure.

Evan, I have quite a few individual songs but not a complete cd. Next on the list.

Jodi, Gotcha 'ya. Makes sense. I usually listen to a lot of Johnny Cash when working on my westerns. Of course, quite a few famous stories have been based on songs as well.
