Subversive Laughter is the Best Medicine

We've been watching NewsRadio again which I'm laughing at just as hard as the first go around. Made me think of other shows that I rank high up on the funny bone chart. Of course, with most programs, the early episodes are best. In no particular order, my favorites:

Barney Miller
The Honeymooners
Frasier
Archer
Fawlty Towers
The Larry Sanders Show
Extras
Arrested Development
Louie
American Dad
Night Court
WKRP in Cincinnati
Taxi
Sanford and Son

Seeing a definite subversive slant running through my list that I wasn't aware of before compiling. Anyway, what makes your list?

David, I'm not familiar with NewsRadio. But "Fawlty Towers," along with other British serials like "To the Manor Born" and “Yes Minister,” was a family favourite in the eighties. Years later, my wife and I enjoyed watching it on cable. We still watch "Frazier" for its keen and intellectual humour. I also like “Becker” for its cynical wit. “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “Friends” continue to dominate our “funny bone chart.” Some months ago, we watched all seasons of the soap opera-like “Downton Abbey” and liked it a lot. We are currently into “The Crown” which is about the British monarchy.

Personally, I rarely watch serious drama though I have on occasion watched a few episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy,” “The Blacklist,” and “Castle,” to name some.

I'd add:

One Foot In The Grave,
Big Bang Theory

And the quiz show Have I Got News For You

All make me laugh out loud.

How could I forget "The Big Bang Theory"? Thank you, tontowilliams.

David – You've listed so many great ones. Here are two more: The British series THE FALL AND RISE OF REGINALD PERRIN; and, my all time favorite, the old DICK VAN DYKE SHOW.

Add the two BBC programs running now on PBS, Keeping Up Appearances and As Time Goes By. Fawlty Towers was one of the funniest.

Prashant, I've heard I should watch Becker. Will look for it during my next lull.

Alan, I don't go out of my way to watch The Big Bang Theory but admit I laugh when I do. I heard they are renewed through several more seasons. Talk about popular!

Elgin, I should have mentioned The Dick Van Dyke show. I still watch it with my family and laugh. And I'm a card carrying Mary Tyler Moore fan.

Oscar, My mom and I watched As Time Goes By. May have to take another look. Yeah, that was a favorite and would bring back some fond memories.

There are some on that list that I simply could not get into. Most British series save Monty Python and Sherlock Holmes Mysteries (with Jeremy Brett) I simply could not get into either. The original version of WKRP was good, the reboot, not so good.

I think Elementary is a very good series. I should start borrowing the DVD's in order to get caught up to speed as they're showing reruns from this season on cable.
