For Barbara

Barbara Martin occasionally posts a Bench of the Week at her blog, and, doing a little sleuthing, I found the idea originated with Norway's Fjell, Hordaland. I promised her a few weeks ago that I'd post a bench pic and here it is. This was taken at Wadsworth Cove in picturesque Castine, Maine, sunset on July 4th. The inscription reads:

In Loving Memory of
Ginny Kneisel
Beloved sister, aunt and friend
"Thank you for the music"

This is a wonderful bench and I can see how anyone who sat here would enjoy the sound of the waves accompanied by the calling of the gulls.

David, you should drop by RuneE's blog and let him know you've put up a bench.

What a nice memory bench and a beautiful setting for it also.

Just dropped by because barbara said you had a bench and I love benches and have a whole blog dedicated to them. Drop by if you like and see my latest one.

That was a remarkable bench! Is it hewn out of a single rock? The inscription was touching and open to many interpretations.

PS I came via Barbara

Barbara, I haven't been to a part of Maine that wasn't extremely scenic but Castine is,so far, tops... and the bench has the perfect tranquil location for a late artist.

PERBS, I will stop by a little later and check out your site and I appreciate you dropping in here.

RuneE, It is a single rock that definitely adds to its unique quality. And it's comfortable to sit on. Btw thanks for letting me join in Bench Of The Week today.

Great idea, wherever it came from - and a very unusual and worthy contribution to the project. Congrats!

This looks a really interesting bench in a beautiful spot. A special and touching inscription too.

I'm visiting via Barbara's blog, which I follow regularly and also participate in Bench of the Week!

We've got a few commemorative benches around, though nothing as nice looking as this one.

Shalom David. Thanks for sharing this great bench of stone with an inscription of heart.
Greetings from Jerusalem.

Lovely. I'm not sure I'd have immediately recognized it as one though.

What a beautiful, peaceful spot for a memorial bench. Great pic, David. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Dave, Gracias!

Leah, The bench is actually across the road from the beach which does give it a nice tranquil setting.

Phoenix, Thanks for stopping by, and I’m just getting around to checking out everyone’s bench this week and I’m looking forward to seeing your post.

Archavist, This is very original to me too and I can’t say that I’ve ever seen one quite like it before either.

Dina, Wow! Jerusalem. One place that I have always wanted to visit and hopefully I will one day. I’m glad you liked the post. I’m looking forward to stopping by your site.

Patti, I didn’t either. I came up to it from behind and thought it was just a large rock.

Lyndi, And I’m glad I found this one. I’m not sure I can top this bench. Thanks for visiting my blog.

I think it only appropriate that a stone bench, especially in an urban setting, play Mick Jagger tunes 24-7.

David Cranmer said...

JR, That's a plan and I would be listening to his Wandering Spirit album. A favorite.

A stunning shot of an object that most of us take for granted.

Very sweet bench and built to last! Makes me think of Abba.

David Cranmer said...

RReynolds, I'm afraid my pic doesn't do the bench and the backdrop any favors but it had rained most of the week and this was my window of opportunity.

Clare, Another Abba fan? Cool. I admit on occasion I am too. "I have a dream" is a favorite. And if anybody scoffs remember Kurt Cobain was a card carrying fan also.

Oh, that is so neat!

Clare, David --I like ABBA too. Wonderful bench. But what about the bench made you think of ABBA? Was it a specific song?

David Cranmer said...

Barrie, That it is.

Richard, I bet Clare has an answer and I'll be damned if I know what it is. But without a doubt it will crack me up.

Lovely bench and a setting that is nostalgic for me. I'm an expatriate Mainer. The first thought that flashed through my mind when I saw "Ginny Kneisel" was "Kneisel Hall!"

Thanks for the photo and the memories.

Hugs from the far side of the world, ~ Sil

Sil, Thanks for the hugs and right back at ya. I'm glad you enjoyed the post and I hope you are able to return to Maine from time to time. It is such a beautiful state.
