I was reading to my cat the other day when my wife snapped this picture. Sam's not into westerns so much (he purr-fers the Cat Who series by Lilian Jackson Braun) but he still listened patiently, as long as I pet him behind the ears every now and then. Regardless of Sam's taste, I can say that I am thoroughly enjoying Tales from Deadwood: The Troopers by Mike Jameson. Deadwood has a nice noir tinge for you hardboiled fans that are ready to try something different.

Randy, I know everyone is excited about HUNT AT THE WELL OF ETERNITY and deservedly so, but this tight western packs a wallop that would hold them over until Gabriel hunt debuts. I’m glad to hear the other books are good because I will eventually collect them all.

Sam doesn't see me much either because of all the traveling I do but he keeps my 83 year old mom company for which I'm appreciative. Actually, they drive each other crazy.
Yup, I'd say you put Sam to sleep. Still, I think I'll trust your opinion on the book over his.
The cat even looks like the General from True Grit.
David, is this book the continuation of the Deadwood series? I've not seen that show--YET--but plan to this summer.

Scott, I'm not sure about a tie-in to the show but it's a fictionalized tale based on real-life characters like Calamity Jane. So far this seems to be a standalone tale which is good because it's the first I've read. Our buddy at Rough Edges wrote it.

David, I love the photo. My cat does that, but he has to be under the book, close enough that he can put his little paws on my carotid's and apply pressure! Or sneeze in my face!
The book sounds delightful, I haven't read a western in a long time. (but I have enjoyed all the Cat Who series)

James' Deadwood books are not official tie-in's to the show but you can bet the publisher commisioned then to ride on the popularity of the show. And Scott watch Deadwood - it's great.
