Leah, Depp does make a film-even a bad one like The Tourist-better.
Naomi, For me, The Thin Man will always take place in the 1930s and 1940s with the funny as hell William Powell and the gorgeous Myrna Loy. No need for remakes.
He will probably do a good job, but I think they should leave it alone. I'm not usually a fan of remakes and I can't imagine who they will get that will do justice to Myrna Loy's role.
I don't think that there's a woman alive, making American movies, who is as sexy as Myrna Loy was when she starred with Powell. All their movies are fun -- not just the Thin Man Movies. And anyone playing Nick Charles would have to act as un-Powellish as possible. He was just too iconic in the role.
That said I always thought Danny DeVito would've made the perfect Continental Op back around the mid 1980s
Ron, He's a good actor but why? Why not re-release the film for a new generation? I know, I know. Depp=$. Arthur? I didn't hear about that one.
Evan, Ain't that weird but Tonto is ok. I agree.
G, I like him as an actor but don't care for his political rants. Didn't he say he was going to leave America because we were too violent? Or some bs like that?
Dan, Myrna's first close-up in THE THIN MAN is silly gorgeous. I mean do they make women (in Hollywood) that beautiful today. I don't think so.

Not sure about remakes in general, but Depp will be a help.
I'm mad about the original. And, frankly, not a Depp fan. Can't imagine how this is going to turn out. I'll wait for the reviews.

Reb- How about Betty White?
Ha. A remake starring Depp and Betty White I would have to see. We may have something there, AC.
Is this going to be Pirates of the Caribbean in a fedora? Depp could bring it off. It's the remake of ARTHUR that worries me. . .
Tonto, yes. Nick Charles, no.
DEAR LORD, WHY????????
not a fan of Johnny Depp and even less when he does remakes of good movies

I keep meaning to read this. Must get on that.
I agree that Depp could probably pull it off. My only questions is Why? And the answer: dolar signs.
Alyssa, The Vintage Crime/Black Lizard Series are sharp-looking if you are going for a paperback.
Randy, Yeah if something is perfect why touch it? Why not take an old so-so film that had potential and re-make it?
