I photographed this great blue heron on Bowman's Beach (Sanibel Island, Florida) on December 7, 2007 using a Nikon Coolpix E4200. The top of the bird's wing appeared to be injured but that didn't seem to stop him as he casually walked up and down the beach looking for food.

Beautiful photo. I love the contrast between the sky and the sand.
He's beautiful. Every now and then I spot a heron flying overhead. Not sure if it's a blue heron or night heron.
Nice shot.
Thanks Laurie. I wish I could take full credit for the sky and sand but I just turned and snapped the photo.
Naomi, I wouldn't know the difference either. My wife says it's a blue heron and I fully endorse that opinion. :)
Gracias Steve.
Nice one, David. The heron looks quite regal.
He appears to own the beach.

Familiar and alluring sight down here in Florida.
Especially when it's overcast and you're sitting in a dreary office...gives you something to look forward to.
Herons are such fascinating creatures. Lana loves photographing them.
Regal is correct. He had a dignified strut as he strode his beach.
Diane, And he wasn't afraid of humans. People walked a few feet from him and he could have cared less.
Mike, They certainly are a marvelous site. Good to know folks there appreciate them.
Charles, I can see where a real photographer (compared to my amateur shots) like Lana would enjoy them as subjects.
Nice pic. They make such a big deal of this bird here in Oregon you'd think he's a state resident. They even named a town after him.
I was there in March. (Thanks to Terrie!) Really lovely spot. Birds are the best.
Great photo David. Since the snow has melted and the rains followed, there are large ponds in the most obscure places here at the moment and there are herons everywhere. Some mornings are fantastic with herons, buzzards and red kites. Keep your photos coming.
Regards, David.
Evan, I couldn't imagine growing tired of their quirky nature.
Patti, I don't believe in reincarnation but if I did, a bird would head the list of possible returns.
David, You live in one of the extraordinary scenic shots of the world. I'd probably have a camera 'round my neck 24/7
The way it's standing so straight and tall, it could almost be human. Great picture.
