Wild West Monday

Today is Wild West Monday, so please don’t forget to sign the online petition here to support a worthy genre. And then, click over to Gary Dobbs aka Jack Martin’s site for all WWM related links and news. For my own part, I’m heading to a hidden bookstore that I shall remain mum about (greedy me) until I’ve cleared it of all the 40s and 50s Zane Grey western magazines therin. After, I'll drop by a few outlets that don't carry westerns and throw a tantrum until they concede my point. So, if you have the inclination, we could certainly use your help. And if you've never read a western, I.J. Parnham makes a very good case on his blog as to why you should.

Shameless plug department: Jack Martin will be returning to BTAP June 28th with "The Devil's Right Hand" which preceeds the release of his debut novel, THE TARNISHED STAR.

Also, Dominic Fox beat me to the punch by posting the lovely Raquel as Hannie Caulder and reviewing the film here. A favorite that I will probably purchase before long.

Western news:

Megan Fox talks about Jonah Hex.

On Butch's trail.

Southwest town provided settings for beloved films Western Heritage.

Did you know Raquel was a weather forecaster for a while here in San Diego?

Do you think Hex has any chances of being watchable?

Charles, I've been losing some faith in these comic adaptations but Iron Man wasn't to bad (thanks to Robert Downey) and Hex is such a good story. Keeping fingers crossed.

Barrie, I can certainly see her doing that.

Don, Well there's John Malkovich and he's always good. Who really knows? The Sprit's trailer implied it had potential but we see the way that turned out.

Thor will be the next comic book hero to be filmed.
Sorry about Hannie Caulder - hope to see you review it sometime. It will be interesting to get a male view.

Dominic, These Marvel/DC comics keep coming with varying results. I can see Thor being screwed up but I have hopes for Josh Whedon's Wonder Woman.

And no problemo on Hannie. I enjoyed your review.

Whoa. Jonah Hex? Really? I am so slow. I FREAKING LOVE that comic! I have, no kidding, like four issues in my to be read stack right now....

I've found the Joe R. Lansdale/Tim Truman series to be among the best I've read though I've only tipped the edge of the Hex iceberg. As for the movie, we'll see. I've really lost faith in Hollywood's adaptations of comics and graphic novels.

That picture is, uh, not ugly.

You're certainly right about that. There will always be beautiful Hollywood starlets but Raquel is in that top tier that includes Marilyn, Rita Hayworth, and Gene Tierney.
And she's a pretty darn good actress. Mother, Jugs, and Speed, The Last of Sheila, and Caulder are all better films because of her presence.
