Tales from Deadwood: The Troopers by Mike Jameson

I was reading to my cat the other day when my wife snapped this picture. Sam's not into westerns so much (he purr-fers the Cat Who series by Lilian Jackson Braun) but he still listened patiently, as long as I pet him behind the ears every now and then.

Regardless of Sam's taste, I can say that I am thoroughly enjoying Tales from Deadwood: The Troopers by Mike Jameson. Deadwood has a nice noir tinge for you hardboiled fans that are ready to try something different.

(This is an installment of The Book Review Club organized by Barrie Summy. For more reviews, click on her blog here.)

Great idear. A western sounds fine for a change.

A cat who enjoys westerns! He's no "dude." Cool picture-

Aloha, David

Charles, I will go back and buy the others and hope the series continues.

Don, You will not be disappointed.

Cloudia, Sam's pretty cool... puts this nerd to shame.

Loved the book. All the books in the series were fine reads. I, too, hope, James is allowed to continue them.

Barrie, Thanks for allowing me to join in with such a slight post but I wanted to be a part of the club this month and get the word out on this terrific book.

Josh, Hows Facebook going?

Randy, I know everyone is excited about HUNT AT THE WELL OF ETERNITY and deservedly so, but this tight western packs a wallop that would hold them over until Gabriel hunt debuts. I’m glad to hear the other books are good because I will eventually collect them all.

Ha, I got my daughter to help with my review and you got your cat! Great photo. You make me miss my cat.

Sam doesn't see me much either because of all the traveling I do but he keeps my 83 year old mom company for which I'm appreciative. Actually, they drive each other crazy.

Yup, I'd say you put Sam to sleep. Still, I think I'll trust your opinion on the book over his.

The cat even looks like the General from True Grit.

David, is this book the continuation of the Deadwood series? I've not seen that show--YET--but plan to this summer.

David Cranmer said...

Thanks D.A. and of course I will keep that from Sam.

Archavist, Yeah, you're right. I didn't think of that.

Scott, I'm not sure about a tie-in to the show but it's a fictionalized tale based on real-life characters like Calamity Jane. So far this seems to be a standalone tale which is good because it's the first I've read. Our buddy at Rough Edges wrote it.

I may steal that picture.

I adore cowboy adventures and this title is new. Amazon? Speaking of adorable that's a cute shot with Sam.

David Cranmer said...

Patti, Steal away.

Diane, I ordered through Amazon but I'm sure it's in your loal bookstore also.

Jenn, Thanks. My wife is always camera ready.

Love the pic! One of my cats enjoys sitting on books! Makes it difficult to read them. :)

Kathy, You have to love 'em and realize we work for them! Hey, thanks for stopping by and when I get a chance I will click over to your page. I'm once again in the midst of traveling and stealing internet can be a real chore.

David, I love the photo. My cat does that, but he has to be under the book, close enough that he can put his little paws on my carotid's and apply pressure! Or sneeze in my face!

The book sounds delightful, I haven't read a western in a long time. (but I have enjoyed all the Cat Who series)

Ahh, a cat man...

If the book has noir qualities then it'll go on my TBR list.

David Cranmer said...

Reb, Sounds a lot like my cat. Maybe, I will send Sam on a vacation to Canada to visit.

Barbara, Mike Jameson never disappoints.

I ordered it. Better be good pardner.

You won't be disappointed, amigo.

James' Deadwood books are not official tie-in's to the show but you can bet the publisher commisioned then to ride on the popularity of the show. And Scott watch Deadwood - it's great.
