For the Love of Spock (2016)

I've been a Star Trek fan ever since my mom and dad bought me a phaser that fired plastic rings (I easily imagined myself slicing and dicing Klingon warriors and salt vampires), and also a book called Star Trek: The Prisoner of Vega (can still remember that story sentence by sentence yet I haven't read a single page in decades).

For the Love of Spock (2016) is a documentary directed by Adam Nimoy, son of Leonard Nimoy who played the iconic figure for five decades. This treasure trove of information, interviews, and never before released video only deepened my appreciation for the show and the thoughtful, intelligent man who embodied the half-Vulcan character. Like the McQueen bio I mentioned a few days ago, there's much deeper themes here than just another valentine for Trek enthusiasts. Recommended for all.

Here's a link to the trailer.

Nice trailer. I saw Spock only in the first Star Wars and thought he was a fine actor. The docu sounds like a great tribute.

I'm sure you meant to say the first Star Trek, Oscar. And that first series remains tops in my book.

I watched this just last night and was enthralled. What a gold mine for us trekkies!

Peter, I was especially taken with the old home family movies. He seemed liked the genuine article... a decent man.

Very much so. With the usual human weaknesses which he learns from and makes up for--ie, the issues with his son. He's a guy you really feel yourself pulling for.

David, I'm a fan of STAR TREK too, though not STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION so much. I liked Mr. Spock's character a lot. I don't know what it is about series and films where any one character, primary or not, overshadows everyone else.

Have to admit I hardly ever watch TNG anymore. Still return to classic Trek and even Deep Space Nine on occasion. The Kirk, Spock, McCoy trinity is what makes it so rewarding.
