Antietam

My daughter and me strolling our way across Antietam National Battlefield.

The iconic Dunker Church, also known as the Beacon of Peace.

Canons on the part of the battlefield where the New York regiment fought and probably where my great great grandfather, Alfred Cranmer, was wounded.

Ava and me striking a pose.

My littlest Charmer.

Bloody Lane.

The re-enactment troops. This week marks the 150th battle anniversary. Anyone else have family members that were there or was in the American Civil War?

Of all the Civil War battlefields I've visited, this is the most sobering. Not only does the fields themselves look practically untouched, but to know that so many men were wounded and died there. It is the one I tell everyone to visit because it is so authentic. This your first time?

Interesting to see those historic fields.
I had a great-uncle from Nebraska in the Civil War. I know nothing about what he did or where he fought.

Bloody lane looks pretty peaceful today. I'm glad for that.

My kind of outing.

Nice photos! I liked Vicksburg since I had a distant relative on a boat there, last name Foote. He was the squadron commander or something.

First time at Antietam, Scott. Been to a few others but always held off visiting this one because of Alfred Cranmer. I knew it would be emotional and it was.

Leah, Thanks to my dad I have quite a bit of history recorded.

Amen, Charles.

Lots and lots of hiking with Antietam, Chris.

Oscar, That war touched many of our families.

Nice to see it the modern way, as opposed to the old fashioned way I spent seeing it, via slides and pics.

One of the C-Span channels had a live 8 hour presentation of the 150th anniversary.

Such a tranquil location to be the site of so much death and bloodshed. My forebears did not arrive in this country until the 1880s...Your Charmer is going to break a lot of hearts.

I know this is about battles but I'm totally distracted by Ava. She's grown up so cute!
