Top Suspense: 13 Classic Stories by 12 Masters of the Genre

Yesterday I purchased this collection that features Bill Crider, Dave Zeltserman, Max Allan Collins, Ed Gorman, and Vicki Hendricks to name a few.

I'm happy to say one of the above writers will also be at BEAT to a PULP this coming weekend.

What is the current eBook that you're enjoying? I'm always looking for a good read.

I've just finished Lee Golberg's The Dean Man and was cracking stuff.

Thanks for the recommendation. I just finished the e-YA Looking for Alaska by John Green - a coming of age story that was fabulous. I just downloaded The Tiger's Wife by Tea Obreht, literary fiction set in the Balkans which grabbed me from the tiger's first chomp.

Thee Mind Monsters by Larry Maddock on Kindle. The first three volumes of his Agent of T.E.R.R.A. series are also available. I don't know why the fourth is not. If you remember, that's a time travel SF/spy series.

Paul, Lee always delivers. That goes for his Top Suspense collaborator, Dave Z.

Sarah, Having just been to the Balkans I might just have to check out The Tiger's Wife.

Damn, Randy. I will probably purchase the Maddock titles before I even finish posting this comment.

The e-book I'm currently enjoying? Why, it's BIGFOOT WAR by Eric S. Brown, naturally.

And yeah, it's fab. And hairy.

I doubt this is what you had in mind but I just bought Mildred Pierce for my kindle. I could not find a copy at either local bookstore.

Here's another one I failed to mention. Rhondda Ruffians and Hard Bastards by Jack Dobbs, a short collection of stories. While I haven't read that one, considering his track record, it will be good. It's on Kindle.

David, you got me on the edge of my seat as to which of us it's going to be!

Hey, thanks for picking up the Top Suspense Anthology (although I would've given you a free copy if you asked).

Right now I'm reading Noir 13 by Ed Gorman, and it's terrific. I've been trying to ration one story a day so it would last, haven't always succeeded, and am down to my last story. What Ed succeeds so well in, other than surprising me in his stories, which few other writers do, is that no matter how broken his characters might be. these are still stories steeped in humanity and thus are very powerful emotionally. Just great stuff written by one of the best mystery/crime/horror/Western short story writers of the last 20 years.

Patti, MILDRED PIERCE was a terrific movie but I never read the Cain novel.

Randy, Jack Dobbs. Duly noted. Btw I picked up THREE MIND MASTERS.

Dave, Ha! Yeah, who could it be at BTAP this week?!

NOIR 13 is a fabulous collection. And Ed's THE END OF IT ALL antho is another top selection of his stories.

I just read Max's "Doubt" in TOP SUSPENSE and was blown away. Superb tale.

I am waiting to read The Adventues of Cash & Miles. How much longer?

David Cranmer said...

Paul, It will probably be released the month of May. Right now I have eight stories but considering adding an extra titled "A Legend's Trail" that features Cash and Miles in the 1920s New Orleans.

They have an ebook out?!? I even subscribe to the site and I didn't even know (so out of the loop). Sounds fantastic! I just finished a collection of shorts called Dirty Old Town by Nigel Bird (EXCELLENT) and just started Pigeons From Hell by Robert E Howard which is Flippin' blowing my MIND. Pulp Horror at its absolute amazing best. I think I'm going to buy the entire collection of Howard's works after this. I've never read anything like this before. Incredible.

Jodi, This collection is a must. Gorman's "The Baby Store" in particular is extraordinary writing.

Ok, you sold me. I just bought it. I'll let you know when I read it. ;-)

"Remaindered" by Lee Goldberg, "The Jade Elephant" by Libby Hellmann and "The Canary" by Dave Z are three other top tales in this antho. And Dave will be at BTAP this week with a sharp story titled "Old Wives' Tale."

Are these all original stories?

Geoff, Most were published elsewhere but I hadn't read them myself. So, this is a worthy compilation.
