Melanie

Jack Martin asked for a Cash Laramie short for his next Wild West Monday. Mr. Martin (aka Gary Dobbs) has been a stalwart force in the western revival and I was more than glad to contribute.

My story, "Melanie," is the tale of an seven-year-old girl who sells flowers and is physically abused by her guardians. You can imagine that doesn't sit well with Marshal Laramie, however, this is the Old West where folks also don't take kindly to the law butting into family issues. Two worlds collide and a little girl is caught in the middle in the ninth story featuring my western antihero.

"Melanie" is coming January 3rd to The Tainted Archive.

This sounds like it's gonna be one hell of a good story.

You will be pleased to know I bought Mr. Summy a western for Christmas. ;)

Oh, and I'm looking forward to this.

AC, I certainly hope so. I've looked at it so many times now I'm cross-eyed. I do know the ending is one of the best so far.

Thanks, Barrie. But what western?

Will just say "Goody!"

How come the pen name?

David Cranmer said...

Goody is a fine word, Randy.

Anonymous, The foremost reason is it is for my grandfather. He published two books seventy years ago and that was a big inspiration in me plugging away at the keyboard. That’s his name and I hope he is proud. (I never actually met the man and, perhaps, he doesn’t even like westerns. :)

This sounds good and I love the title and wonderful cover. I'm putting a reminder in my phone to read. Thanks so much for visiting my blog. Your time and comments mean a lot.

A heavy plot for a western I will look forward to, David.

David,

Is Gideon Myles in Melanie? That character in the western you had on your online magazine has stuck with me all these months later.

Happy Holidays!

Sincerely,
John Preece

James, The topic of child abuse is heavy for me but not for westerns as a general rule. Often weighty and controversial topics are addressed.

John, Gideon Miles is not in "Melanie" but he returns in the next adventure I’m working on called "Under the Sun." I co-wrote it with Sandra Seamans and I’m thinking it will see the light of day fairly early in 2011.

old guy rambling, I’m glad you stopped by. I see your latest post is on Laramie, Wyoming and that is where my fictional character of Cash Laramie snagged his name. I will stop by and comment later today. Thanks.

Some novels on this topic have not been well received , no doubt for the wrong reasons. I'd very much like to read this one.
