Nick of Time

Alyssa Goodnight reviewed this young adult novel and I purchased it for my trip and I've been savoring reading a chapter a night. One highlight (of which there are many) is when our protagonist, Nick McIver, ropes a German submarine! Mr. Bell is a wonderful writer who knows how to engage both young and mature audiences alike. I recommend reading Alyssa's post for a brief overview of this fine adventure and then snagging a copy for yourself. I'm on chapter twenty-four and enjoying the heck out of it.

Chet Baker is too cool. And that Balkan book looks interesting. Have you already commented about that? SARAJEVO MARLBORO by Miljenko Jergovic is a melancholy collection of well-written short stories about war and loss...and survival.

SARAJEVO MARLBORO is added to my list, Ron. Thanks.

SPIES OF THE BALKANS is so far excellent. I'm three chapters in.

I wonder when YA books began to be so commonly read by adults. And better than a lot of adult fiction.

I'm not sure. Maybe the same time as graphic novels being accepted. They are such a nice change of pace and relaxing to read.

Nick of time is almost as good a play on language as rip through time.

David, my dads an avid reader and he's read a lot of YA books as well as your every day novels (Sci-fi and mythical stroies) and he says they're as good a read as any other novel out there. I'll let him know about this one.

Take care, mate.

Charles, And both have that fun vibe running throughout.

David, Then he will get a kick out of this book. I am going back to read the first story in the series.

Sounds fun. I'll be checking this out of the library.

David...sorry, Legend,
I thought this was the first story in the series! Or are you referring to another book in your comment above? There is definitely one after this one but before?

Evan, Mr. Bell also writes adult adventures that I am going to check out.

Alyssa, I stand corrected, which for a Legend is highly unusual. It looks like his latest is called The Time Pirate.

I'm thinking about checking out the adult books too--I think there's some character connection. Lord Hawke in Nick of Time...Alex Hawke in Hawke, first in the adult series.
