Photo-Finish Friday -- Rayne Cemetery Revisited

I've posted more than once my interest in cemeteries but the jury is out as to whether this is a good idea.

PFF is the creation of Leah J. Utas.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

I never knew about proper east-west orientation. Most interesting.
As for the party in the graveyard notion, well, it might work as a one-off thing, but I don't know about making it a regular occurrence. Cemeteries are supposed to be restful.
I appreciate the linkage.

I have a friend who works at a cemetery, and from him I've learned quite a bit I didn't know about them. But they are meant to be restful places, and partying just doesn't seem quite appropriate.

I'm with everyone else. Something about having a party at a cemetery seems disrespectful. Call me old fashioned.

We've got some great cemetaries down here.

We've got some great cemeteries up here in Scotland. They have a certain magnetism, and I remember we used to wander round them as kids hoping we never found a gravestone with our name or date of birth on it. Great, scary times. Would never have thought about a party in one though. Wonder if any of those 'party-goers' have had a visit since the incidents? Have a great weekend yourself.

Leah, I happened to be working in the vicinity (of the bone orchard) and delving into their local culture came across east-west orientation or else I wouldn’t have had a clue either. De nada on the linkage.

Barbara, Agreed with hitting the mute button for good. But I bet the consensus of the departed is mixed. Some are happy for the company while others are like "leave me alone, already."

Laurie, Yes, tradition seems preferred. On another note, I always wanted to be buried but now I’m leaning toward cremation and sprinkled around the moons of Endor. Something simple, elegant.

Charles, Because so many have that gothic allure to them. Die and Be Buried in Louisiana should be your state’s slogan.

Dave, Based on that post you did a few months back, I’d rate Scotland damn near top for esthetic beauty.

Pere Lachaise in Paris is a real knockout. We use to do rubbings but at some point decided it wasn't a good idea. Love the cemetery in Savannah, too.

Josh, I'm still editing BTAP, have a few short stories published here and there and I'm hanging out (occasionally) in Maine.

Patti, I would love to visit Pere Lachaise. All those names. (I wonder if The Lizard King's fans are still causing vandalism?)

I actually did know about the orientation (my brain is full of useless information).
I've done some genealogical research, and dragged a bunch of relatives (live ones) around to cemeteries looking for relatives (dead ones).....
Would love to be able to travel to Maine and look for our ancestors' graves there, but it'll probably never happen. Sigh.

the Bag Lady, It sounds like we are simpatico. But I really need to get back in the genealogy swing. My dad did a lot but now it's my turn to pick up the torch.
