Things that would go out of business if they relied on me

Here are some products, activities and markets everyone else seems to be enjoying that would go in the red if they depended on my support (in no particular order):

Jellybeans
Reality TV shows
Shopping malls
Major league sports
Cirque du Soleil
Soap operas
Gyms
Crossword puzzles
The entire seafood industry
Twitter
Ski slopes
Buffet restaurants

Is there anything on your list?

Oh loads of stuff:

acrylic nails (fake nails of any form)
Coke
Umbrellas (I'm a rain dancer)
Hair salons
Fast food

There is way more, but I agree with you on:

Shopping Malls
Twitter
Reality TV shows
Soap operas
Major league sports (except the Yankees, what can I say NY'er here.)

The latest "hot" YA title.

Or my personal fave, and I know I'm gonna get ribbed for it, but....

Strip clubs.

And baseball. Haven't watched an entire game since I started blogging/writing some two years ago.

Football would get a few bucks of mine. Seafood stuff. Gotta eat that. Love me some sushi. I'm pretty much with you on the other items. Some others:
Wal-Mart, Hemp-growers, violin makers, Manga artists, etc.

I'm with you on the reality shows, shopping malls, and soap operas. I love seafood, although the mercury levels in my system are probably at dangerous levels and I worry about fish populations collapsing. Great post, David.

That Kindle e-book reader thing.

And anything similar made by other manufacturers.

Indigo, Geez, I have to admit I follow the Yankees when they are in the playoffs.

G, I've been to a strip club (Army days) twice in my life. So, I guess they would hang a going outta business sign if they were waiting for me.

Charles, When I was in Louisiana seafood was king, so I understand.

Laurie, I'm sure I am the minority when it comes to fish.

u.v.ray., Being the editor of a zine, I felt it was necessary to familiarize myself with a Kindle. You remind me I still need to get my thoughts and that post together.

Cloudia, Aloha.

Paul, I wish I could say McDonalds
but I do a lot of traveling and those golden arches are a necessary evil. Same thing with microwave ovens.

Amazing to think that with most of this stuff we're not talking product alone but entire subcultures of jargons, jingles, and personalities.

Great list. Plenty of places would go belly up if they relied on me including, but not restricted to the cosmetics industry, fast food, cell phones, and many on your list like reality tv, Twitter, ski slopes, gyms, and Cirque.

It's like you read my mind! Except for maybe the puzzle books. I love the "fill them ins", espcially the number ones. I guess I'm just a sucker for blank pages ;-)

I have to say that our lists match, with only one exception, and that is Twitter. I absolutely love it. I'm having a lot of fun corresponding with other writers, and the info-sharing that goes on is terrific.
I used to be an ALL MY CHILDREN fan, for a good 20 years, but it had to go to the wayside a long time ago. I kept taping it in the old VHS days, and never getting around to watching it.
The only reality show I treat myself to is AMERICAN IDOL...none others.
I'm with you, not a seafood lover (which is unusual for a gal living on Long Island, but what can I tell you!).
Interesting post, David!

Twitter, reality shows, talking on the telephone, soaps (although like Kathy I watched AMC until the late eightes), fast food, Mexican food, romance novels, beer, late night talk shows, daytime tv, sports, tattoo artists, nail salons, Love seafood and jelly beans but neither always like me.

Funny! I feel I know you better now from what you do not do.

Rich, Very true.

Leah, Glad to see we are simpatico.

Sandra, Those are fine and I love Jumbles but crosswords drive me batty. Little d not only loves them but creates them. And she is smarter than yours truly, so that should tell you something.

Kathleen, I know Twitter is extremely popular and I’ve been asked to join that and Facebook many times but one social network is enough for me.

Patti, I could add talking on the phone and late night talk shows.

Sarah, And I hope that’s good. :)

Candy corn makers, pricey wineries, hair salons, major league baseball.

Starbucks, organic shit, any sports teams, TV. Things that'll make a killin: Dunkin' Donuts, Independent bookstores and any friggin' NY pizza joint (maybe Jersey too, Shea. Maybe.)

Pretty much agree with most. I do love seafood though and NFL football. After Dodgers baseball, the sorry state that it's in, not much else in Major league baseball.

That's about it. Being diabetic, candy is a thing of the past(well, I fudge a bit at Christmas as my sister makes fudge with SWplenda.

We are totally on the same page here...except maybe the jellybeans. Around Easter they kinda appeal to me.

David Cranmer said...

You know jellybeans around Easter we have come to expect. But what if they were not there, would we miss them? Hm.. sounds like a study for Cornell University.

Todd Mason said...

Well, I guess no TexMex with Dos Equis when Patti comes back to Filadelfia...

Um, THE RAT PATROL on dvd would be pretty high on my list...(on ViewMaster slides, just maybe)

David Cranmer said...

Todd, Ha. You're in a rare mood tonight.
