The Girl In The Other Room

There were some things that I found I really enjoyed singing about; like, on the title track, there's this film-noir character of a woman who's sort of losing it in a room --Diana Krall

This is the song--and the album that introduced me to Krall and I still think it's her best. The whole thing is haunting, evocative, just top notch.

I've got all her material and this is the CD I like best. She writes half the tunes with her then new husband--Elvis Costello. She had just lost her mom and the emotion in the songs is tangible. Ironically, her rendition of "Black Crow" is my favorite from the CD. There's a delicacy, a fragile-ness to the music and the raw emotion of the lyrics that I really find breathtaking. The DVD of her live show is excellent. I have to admit that when she returned to standards for her next album, I felt a bit let down. This is Krall's forgotten album...except for those in the know.

I kind of like this, although normally this would be about a light year too slow for my tastes. It's got a nice feel to it, though.

I think Diana Krall has a beautiful voice. I've only seen a couple of her performances, but her Sesame Street one is my favorite so far. :)

She is a gem. I always love it when you post videos, David, because you have such impeccable taste. :)

This song is stunning. It tugs on places deep within.

Cloudia, It's got me!

Richard, Same here. This is the album that hooked me on her incredible talent. Evocative without a doubt.

Scott, You know Costello has that edge that gives the extra depth. He did the same thing for Paul McCartney's Flowers In The Dirt.

Charles, You just have to have a slow album in that headbangers collection of yours.

Alyssa, I've included a live performance link on this post. As you would suspect, toppermost.

Sarah, impeccable taste! Carumba. Thank you.

She and Elvis. What a pair and she interviews him on Spectacle this week.

Spectacle! Now THAT'S a great show. The Springsteen episodes are wonderful but I really dug the singer/songwriters episode with Lyle Lovett, et. al.

Diana and Elvis's anniversary is my birthday. And, yes, they called me and arranged that date in particular... ;-)

Man, I'm so out of touch. I had no idea what Spectacle was until I just looked it up.
