Gravedigger Peace was already sitting up when his eyes opened. It had been years since the nightmares, but his face and forearms were clammy with perspiration and his heart was racing, so he assumed there’d been one.Todd himself will have next week’s punch at BTAP with the captivating title of "Caveat Venditor, Caveat Emptor."
I’m going to pass on my own two lines this week but no need to be faint of heart... the ladies at WOM will supply you with more two-fer Tuesday thrills.

That leave me hanging there. Why does it need to be that long?

Jacob, Sorry about that but those are the rules of Two-fer Tuesdays... The story is damn good and I've read where the character of Gravedigger Peace had a cameo elsewhere.
Josh, Yah!
Mariya my spammer friend. I guess the word hardcore jumped right out at you, didn't it?
'Gravedigger Peace' what a great name! My book opens with a dream/nightmare as well. Loved the 2 lines, makes me want to read it.
I love openings with dreams/nightmares. It makes the characters more vulnerable. Where are your lines this week?
Whaaat? No Cranmer twofer? Now my day is incomplete. :-)
About your novel that you mentioned the other day, the one that is taking up your writing time, is this your first?
I like the title of that collection.
Gail, It is a great opening and the whole story is deserving of an Edgar. I'm looking forward to reading more from Sean Chercover.
Crystal, I'll be back next week. Nothing of mine was jumping out as being worthy.
Scott, It's my second but will be my first I send into a publisher. I may see if Longarm or Black Horse Westerns will be interested. I'm still a few months away from being done.
Charles, It's a great title and the content inside lives up to it. Some amazing authors at the top of their game.
That's the neat thing about two sentences: they can grab you quick with a little bit of information, appetite whetted for more. Those were great sentences, and I'm curious enough to want to read the rest of the story.
I passed this week, too, as I couldn't think off hand which two sentences would work.
Thanks for the shout-out. I'm glad you enjoyed the story.
Barbara, I’ve read several stories so far in hardcore hardboiled and two others that merit a mention are Swierczynski’s The Replacement and Gischler’s Kill Posse.
Sean, Thanks for stopping by. Your story is a deserving Edgar nomination and I hope you walk away with the win. I’m looking forward to Trigger City which is on my to-read list. Btw, as an editor at BEAT to a PULP e-zine, I’d like to extend the invitation to you to send along a story if you just happen to have another one lying around. BTAP has Big Daddy Thug himself in next week’s offering.
Those sentences were interesting. There's something kind of alarming about having a physical reaction to something terrifying, without being able to mentally recall the reason.
Looking forward to yours next week, David. :)
