BTAP #12: The Unreal Jesse James by Chap O'Keefe

Jesse JamesI'm thrilled Chap O'Keefe, aka Keith Chapman, has contributed this exceptional story to BTAP. I must give a special thanks to Gary Dobbs who got the ball rolling by passing my email along to him. Keith immediately responded with "The Unreal Jesse James," a story that skillfully mixes the western, sci-fi and romance genres in one deliciously satirical pulpy tale. He says he wrote this piece as a response to the many authors who have claimed to have written about the "real" Jesse James; now, Chap O'Keefe has left his own indelible stamp on the "unreal" legendary outlaw.

Next week: "A Stash of Goods" by Barbara Martin

Coming soon: "In an English Country Garden" by Ray Foster

Thanks Cullen. We were very privledged to receive this O'Keefe story and there's two more Black Horse western writers coming up in the next couple of months.

Don, I knew you would like it. I've ordered MISFIT LIL RIDES IN and another Black Horse. If you check Abebooks, you'll find some good prices.

Gary, Once again, a big thanks.

I am with everyone's opinion that this was a fun way to spend twenty-five minutes. I will be looking for more titles by O'Keefe.

One again I've read the last three BTAP back to back. It's hard to resist the temptation to sneak a peek but worth it. Horror/noir/spies,western/sci-fi -smashing!

Paul, What I liked about Chap's tale is that it would have fit in with Amazing Stories circa 1935 quite well... And next week we are back to horror. After that, a yarn by Robert Weibezahl called "Identity Theft."

I liked Chap O'Keefe's books before I 'knew' him via the net. This story went to show another side of his work. Hope he does some more.

Ray, I certainly hope he branches out like this again. His westerns, of course, are tops but he also excels at this old-style pulp that I enjoy so much.
