If I was the jealous type, I would be envious of Gary Dobbs/Jack Martin. First, he’s an actor who has appeared in a favorite sci-fi show of mine, Doctor Who, and can currently be seen in the BBC hit, Larkrise to Candleford. Second, his novel, Tarnished Star from Robert Hale LTD/Black Horse Westerns, hits the stores on June 30, 2009. And as if that's not enough to keep Gary busy, he updates his entertaining blog, The Tainted Archive, on a daily basis.
We are very pleased to feature the Jack Martin western, "A Man Called Masters," on BEAT to a PULP.
Next week: "Backing the Stakes" by Kieran Shea

Thanks David - this actually marks the debut of a work under the name of Jack Martin. The story was originally sold to Great Western Fiction but the magazine folded before publication. I'm quite nervous waiting for readers comments on Beat The Pulp.
It's exciting to have Jack Martin's debut piece and I'm sure readers will like it. Not to mention having "The Devil's Right Hand", maybe we will put that out the week before Tarnished Star as a tie-in of sorts.
That would be great.
As soon as I get my 8 year old to bed, I'm making a cup of tea and reading "A Man Called Masters." Thanks for the link!
I left a comment on Beat The Pulp, but it didn't show up. Oh, oh, maybe it has to be approved. Anyway, I really enjoyed the story. It was great to finally read something by Gary Dobbs/Jack Martin. I especially loved all the detail (Bull Durham tobacco and the Spencer rifle). Well done!
Barrie, The comment went through fine but I will keep a close track to see if there's any problems with the system.
It is different and welcoming to have westerns available to read again. For those of us over fifty there was a time when they were everywhere. I miss those days and it was fun to read A Man Called Masters.

Congratulations on how well this venture is going, David. What nice diversity in stories.
Thanks Patti. I've been very fortunate to have some wonderful writers contribute and we have some big surprises coming this year.... I do believe the diversity adds a nice dimension to the mix.
Four stories in and I am enjoying Beat To A Pulp. It's a great mix - can only go from success to success.
Thanks Ray. I'm glad that you and other readers are enjoying the diversity of the stories. Hopefully we'll be able to continue to offer stories that really mix it up.
