Lawyer and Painted Ladies

Another good writing day where I attained London's coveted one thousand palabras, finishing the rough draft of a western I'm calling "The Lawyer." This comes on the heels of good news, "Cash Laramie and the Painted Ladies" will appear in Crimefactory issue #7 scheduled for release in May. I'm pleased with the way this one turned out--a mixture of crime, western, and mystery--and then having it accepted in an esteemed publication like CF is gravy.

What are you working on at the moment?

  1. Wow, twice in one day I is first for a comment. :D

Slowly torturing myself with a novel about a hybrid woman trying to keep her human husband from being kidnapped and taken back to her pod/planet to become the ruler's consort.

  2. Now that is an interesting plot, G. You will have to keep me informed on that one.

  3. Well done, my man, well done. What I'm "working on" is a stack of student papers that came in yesterday. Read 14 of them today. Another 3 days like that and I'll be done. (That was after writing a review of Brad Parks' FACES OF THE GONE this morning, which will be up soon.)

  4. Ron, I'm amazed at how quickly you can read a book and presto an accomplished review. But I don't envy the stack of student papers. Best of luck there, sir.

  5. Most definitely.

The neat thing about this story is that whenever I decide to add something to the mix (like mythology), I wind up doing a little research for accuracy, which in turns leads to a few interesting additions to the overall story.

  6. I like the title of this one! Cash Laramie is quite the ladies' man.

  7. Looking forward to reading the new Cash stories.

I just finished the rough draft on a story about a Vietnam Vet, the woman he's sleeping with, and that woman's husband. It's not quite as nice as it might sound.

  8. G, It is like uncovering a fossil (I’m sorta quoting King's On Writing here) and the more you dig the more of the story is revealed.

Barrie, Thanks, I wasn’t able to do a review this month but I did make a few of the rounds.

Alyssa, Cash is having some serious lady trouble in this crime western tale. I know you would enjoy the ending.

AC, In your hands that sounds like it will be a much more rewarding and complex 'Ménage à trois.'

  9. Thanks, Charles. And your non-fiction sounds like work to me.

  10. Working on wrapping/polishing up two short stories ("About a Horse" and "US IDOL In: Vampires are Pussies"). Also finishing up my travelogue from our family trip to Panama, though that's more for my own pleasure than anything else.

That's the front burner stuff this week, anyway.

  11. Chris, I'm really looking forward to the finished "About a Horse."

Patti, "Malevolent daughters." You have me hooked already.
