    Grim. I read THE BELL JAR shortly after it was published. Still think of it as a strange, off-putting book.

    Ron, I know what you mean. After I bought BIRTHDAY LETTERS (brilliant collection) I re-read her poems and found them intriguing but, as you said, off-putting.

    I'm sorry to have read her son committed suicide a year or so ago.
