Kid Eddie

Last Monday, I finished my fifth Cash Laramie western short titled "Kid Eddie." I've been working on it sporadically since October 20, 2009 until about a month ago when I went in for the hard polish. I feel confident it turned out well, special thanks to Rich Prosch for taking a look-see and offering some helpful suggestions. I'm pleased to say the week of September 12th, "Kid Eddie" will be featured in The Western Online, and in some crossover, quick-draw action, The Western Online's editor, Matthew Pizzolato, brings "The Wanted Man" to BEAT to a PULP.

In other Cash/Miles news, Scott D. Parker and I are putting the finishing touches on an action-packed collaboration called "The Adventure of the Sundown Express." This cracking story will combine Scott's Calvin Carter character from "You Don't Get Three Mistakes" with my dynamic duo. For some time I wanted to introduce our western characters and when a nifty idea for a tale popped up, I approached Scott. He's done brilliantly adding flourishes to some rather techie scenes, something I would never have been able to do justice, and adding Carter to the mix has created a whole new dimension to the story.

What is everyone else working on?

  1. Congratulations! I'm very happy to see Cash Laramie is doing well for you.

I'm actually avoiding writing a story just now. Nothing new for me. I'm outstanding at avoidance behavior. I have two concepts milling around in my mind but they aren't ready for birthing yet.

  2. Congrats to you David. It's also great to see collaborations that are being done. Other than the memoir that I've been picking at for the past few weeks, I'm shopping around for a publisher for the next Paul Powers collection.

  3. Sounds really good. I get a contact high from all the creative work going on around here. Meanwhile, I'm plugging away with excitement on what could eventually turn into whatever all this blogging and research leads to. Each day has its share of surprises.

  7. Naomi, Good for you and taking the time to develop them. I’m positive they will be nurtured properly when they arrive.

Laurie, NOW that’s good news. I can’t say it enough that I’m happy for the return of Paul S. Powers.

Ron, It could build to a book I would buy. Hold a few pieces back from Blogger and put together a extremely useful tool for western writers.

Charles, “Bloodsucker stuff.” Ha. Can't wait.

Deka, At one time polishing was boring to me but now I revel in making a piece stronger through repeated fine-tuning.

  8. Well, aside from our slam-bang collaboration, I'm working on another Carter adventure, perhaps a novel-length one. And we Do Some Damage writers are cooking up something fun, to see the light of day soon. Lastly, I have an image of something that merges two things but I'm not sure how: space and cooking.

  10. Congrats to you on all this stuff David. Super news and all well deserved.

    Kind regards.

  11. Scott, Well you have piqued my curiosity with the DSD hint and space and cooking could work. Robert B. Parker's Spenser three hundred years from now would be an example.

    Thanks, Leah.

    Alan, Gracias.

  12. Wow, I didn't realize that was the fifth Cash story already! You're really kicking it into gear. Great work. Can't wait to see the venue crossover with Matt as well as the team-up with Scott. When do you find time to sleep?

  16. Oscar. Agreed. He has written a very fine western and BTAP is fortunate to have him.

Patti, The cryonics story sounds intriguing.

Dread? You're one of the top short story writers around. Imagine, how we feel farther down the ladder!

David - Thank you for your kind words about my story. It's an honor to appear in your fine publication. And I can't wait until Cash Laramie rides to The Western Online.
