I spent part of my day off indulging in another childhood memory, watching the cartoon version of "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi" from the mid 1970's. At the time, I remember being scared for the little mongoose and the family he was protecting from a pair of scheming cobras, and that was the extent of my curiosity. But now, as I watch it again through wizened eyes, I'm interested in finding out how a non-fictitious mongoose tangles with a cobra -- I see he does so quite deftly.
Part 2 | Part 3
Interesting vid. Good to see a real life version.
ReplyDeleteWithout looking it up or at the video, Roddy McDowell is in this, right?
ReplyDeleteI remember Rikki tikki Tavi with fondness myself.
ReplyDeleteI loved that show as a kid. Still do, in fact.
ReplyDeleteCormac, I don't believe so. It's Orson Welles and Mel Blanc. But I will have to check the end credits again.
ReplyDeleteThis terrified me as a kid. I can recall pulling the blanket high when Nag & Nagaina show up. Heartless villains to the core.

Hmmm...I didn't watch this show. I did like cartoons as a child, but like them much much less now. I know why, though.
ReplyDeleteBArrie, I'm sure I know the answer to that also. :)
ReplyDeleteDaggone that mongoose went straight for the head in the nature video. I assumed that was all Hollywood nonsense.
ReplyDeleteNag & Nagaina still scare me. Incredibly well done in a really underrated film.
ReplyDeleteMy kids loved that story. We had a copy with gorgeous illustrations that I passed onto my bother’s kids. I didn’t know about the TV show although I was watching cartoons in the 70s. It looks fun, but I still prefer the book.
