Cindy Rosmus was kind enough to accept my story "The Education of a Pulp Writer" late last year and looking at it again I think it turned out pretty darned good. Click
here to read it. And while you're at it, check out the other fine stories in the
Yellow Mama line-up. (

Dave, much enjoyed. The facts, I know. The story, something new. Very creative. You kept my attention through a glass of bourbon. Loved it. Very creative. Wish it were my story.
ReplyDeleteI'm off to check it out.
ReplyDeleteWhew! A nasty one there. Two peas in a pod find each other. A happy ending really.
ReplyDeleteFrank, Thanks and I may recommend others to read with bourbon too.
ReplyDeleteCharles, Gracias. Maybe after the film deal, audiences will be clamoring for a sequel and Kirby will return from the dead Jason style. "The Revenge of the P.W."
Finally, we get to read a sample of writing from one of the better bloggers out there.
ReplyDeleteExcellent piece of writing Dave.
Dave, you surprised me twice in this story. Was in Martina's corner before the rug was pulled. A tremendous thriller.
ReplyDeleteNo bourbon, but enjoyed the story with my morning zolt of caffine. Nice one, David!
ReplyDeleteand that would be jolt. I have no clue where the zolt came from.
ReplyDeleteOh, that was a good one.
ReplyDeleteNice! Well done.
ReplyDeleteG, Thanks a ton. I really appreciate the generous words about the story and the blog.
ReplyDeleteDiane, Glad you liked it. I just realized Martina has that Dexter thing going on by cleaning up the trash. Let’s hope no one good crosses her.
Sandra, Thanks. And Zolt Cola does sounds good.
RReynolds, Gracias.
Chris, Thanks and best of luck on your Derringer nom.
Thanks for the good luck wishes -- I have a feeling I need it.
ReplyDeleteAs for your story, I really dug it. Great voice, great premise, and I totally didn't see the ending coming.
Oh, and Charles' interpretation of the ending made me smile.
As soon as I'm done work, but I'll stick to wine.
ReplyDeleteDavid,
ReplyDeleteI am so proud when I get to read your writing. You are really making your dream come true. Glad I am hear to witness the making of a great pulp fiction writer.
I enjoyed that.
Mates
David, you did an admirable job on this one. I know how hard you worked to polish it to a high shine, and the work paid off. Kudos to Cindy Crosmus and her band of artwork elves who created a photograph to depict the "desk" of your character.

Chris, Coming from “The Toll Collectors” author that means a lot. I still see where I can improve with the story but when it was written it was the best I could do and your opinion is much appreciated.
ReplyDeletePatti, I enjoyed some Francis Coppola wine while I was in Louisiana and would recommend it. As a matter of fact I think I will pick some up tonight.
Mates, I’m hoping Edward Grainger is getting a kick out of his grandson… And thanks Mates for always being there.
Ms. Ash, Your advice as always is invaluable.
Good one, David!
ReplyDeleteI really like what Cindy's been doing with Yellow Mama. It's a great and often times overlooked zine.
By the way, you've got some serious skills, my man.
Yes, have to echo what everyone else has said.
ReplyDeleteA fine piece. I'll leave a comment on it now.
ReplyDeleteWhoops - no where to leave a comment but a very fine piece and cleverly structured.
ReplyDeleteThanks a heap Keith. I really appreciate the response the story is getting. And I'm looking forward to reading the finished "Life on the Mesa."
ReplyDeleteRay/Gary, To have two writers from Robert Hale take the time to comment is tops. Much thanks.
A thoroughly entertaining read. More, more!
ReplyDeleteDon
Yeah, we'll see. I'm pretty slow.
ReplyDeleteMy first time to stumble on this blog. Love this blog and this piece. Saw the article on Mr. Boh also. I am a fellow Cameroonian and we are deep in problems here in Africa. Nothing is sure and certain.b I hope to keep reading this blog and comment also.
ReplyDeletecataporg, I enjoyed spending time in Cameroon but without a doubt there are many hardships for the people. Best of luck to you and thanks for stopping by.
