Some photos from a trip to the Ava Gardner museum in Smithfield, NC in November 2006.
She is buried a few miles away from the museum. This is the family headstone with Ava's marker in front (AVA LAVINIA GARDNER / DEC. 24, 1922 / JAN. 25, 1990)
Now that is the beauty of the internet! I really appreciate you leaving a comment. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit and are looking forward to returning.
God, Ava was quite a lady. She's so good in the The Killers it's freakish. The second you see her you just know that poor bastard Lancaster doesn't have a chance.
They had faces (and figures) then.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Patti. She'd have to lose thirty pounds if she was going to be a star today. Great photos, David - thanks for posting it again.
ReplyDeleteExcellent photos. I agree with the other comments. I miss the days when a woman was built like a woman.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing to think a little over ten years later Twiggy showed up and everything changed.
ReplyDeleteHer early films in the 1940s are fun to watch, before she became an icon. She does a nice turn as a gun moll in THE KILLERS.
ReplyDeleteTHE KILLERS is #1 on my list. She's my pick for the ultimate femme fatale in that flick.
ReplyDeleteThanks for you post. I hope you enjoyed your visit and come back soon. We're always changing exhibits and putting out new stuff!

ReplyDeleteOn the Beach is another film you should check out if you have not seen it.
ReplyDeleteShe was a beauty. Great photos David.
ReplyDeleteRReynolds, That is one I've missed and has quite a cast besides Ava. I'm sure I will see it at some point.
ReplyDeleteReb, Thanks.
That is some timeless beauty.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! That's a great one of you and her! ;)
ReplyDeleteChris/Geoff, My sentiments exactly.
ReplyDeleteAlyssa, Yeah, why did I have to ruin that picture?!
Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteNot for me, she wouln't have to lose 30 lbs!
ReplyDeleteChudney, Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteDave, Agreed, sir.

ReplyDeleteJake, That film and her performance is the noir classic I would take to the desert island. Astounding all around.
