PastPosts * Ava Gardner Museum

Some photos from a trip to the Ava Gardner museum in Smithfield, NC in November 2006.

She is buried a few miles away from the museum. This is the family headstone with Ava's marker in front (AVA LAVINIA GARDNER / DEC. 24, 1922 / JAN. 25, 1990)

  1. I agree with Patti. She'd have to lose thirty pounds if she was going to be a star today. Great photos, David - thanks for posting it again.

  2. Excellent photos. I agree with the other comments. I miss the days when a woman was built like a woman.

  3. It's amazing to think a little over ten years later Twiggy showed up and everything changed.

  4. Her early films in the 1940s are fun to watch, before she became an icon. She does a nice turn as a gun moll in THE KILLERS.

  5. THE KILLERS is #1 on my list. She's my pick for the ultimate femme fatale in that flick.

  10. RReynolds, That is one I've missed and has quite a cast besides Ava. I'm sure I will see it at some point.

  16. God, Ava was quite a lady. She's so good in the The Killers it's freakish. The second you see her you just know that poor bastard Lancaster doesn't have a chance.

  17. Jake, That film and her performance is the noir classic I would take to the desert island. Astounding all around.
